Your Cozy Corner For Books: Inside Augre
A desktop EPUB reader that comes with all the essential features to enhance your reading experience, and none of the frills and extra steps.
Augre was born out of the desire to create a space to read our favourite books: an app that is easy to use, an app that works just as well offline, and an app that has zero AI books in it.
That is what we have built: a no-frills desktop EPUB reader that is super easy to use and navigate, and sign-up is only required to sync your devices. So all you need to do is download the app, import your EPUBs (or choose from the books in our Library) and start reading. Here are some of the key features of the app.
1. Read-Aloud
Augre has a read-aloud feature that does not require the internet to work. Open the book, choose a voice model to download (once), pick a voice and press play. The sentence being read is highlighted, and you can control the speed and volume. The voice keeps playing across page turns.
2. Change Settings To Enhance Your Reading Experience
Change the background, the font, its size and colour to make the reading experience a comfortable one for you.
3. Live Voice Rooms
Host a book club right from the comfort of your home. Invite friends and family to discuss and read the book together. The app shares the book with everyone in the session, so nobody has to go book hunting to join the club.
Position sync is another feature we like: you can jump to the leader, and see small markers for where each participant is on the page. It is still in beta, but it is a great way to connect with others and share a love for books.
It works by the leader sending out an email invite; the link in the email opens directly into the book reading session in Augre. That way privacy is maintained, and you know for sure that there are no AI bots involved.
4. Have A Reading Companion
Choose a cute reading companion to give you company as you read. The cat or the dog follows your journey, and you can move it around the page.
Where We Are Going
Augre is our dream project: a dream to bring back the joy of reading without any major distractions. Our aim is to eventually create a hangout space for the reading ecosystem, a place where people can read, connect and socialize. We are also venturing into publishing books from new authors, who will have an audience ready to receive their books.
There is still a long way to go, but we are loving every part of this journey!
